The 2018 International Building Code specifies that the aggregate clear egress width for a mall, whether it is a covered or open mall building, must be at least 20 feet. This width must be sufficient to accommodate the occupant load served. Additionally, any portion of this egress width must be at least 10 feet wide, measured to a height of 8 feet, between any projections from tenant spaces and the nearest obstruction such as kiosks or vending machines.
